The guides, articles and answers on this Site are general information for homeowners and businesses in Philadelphia County. They are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a qualified technician.
Disclosure: who roofs the building
Philadelphia Roofing operates a telephone line and an online form for roof repair and replacement in Philadelphia and Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania, and in the New Jersey communities it lists. Nobody employed by Philadelphia Roofing surveys a roof, applies for a permit or performs roofing work. Each request is passed to one independent roofing partner, which alone answers for its survey, its written price, its permit applications and the standard of its work.
No Pennsylvania state roofing licence exists. Registration with the Attorney General under the Home Improvement Consumer Protection Act, a Philadelphia Commercial Activity License where the city's permit rules call for one, being current on city taxes, and keeping insurance on file with Licenses and Inspections where required are the partner's obligations, as is its liability cover. New Jersey work requires home improvement contractor registration with that state's Division of Consumer Affairs. Philadelphia Roofing and this website hold and claim no licence, registration, bond or insurance, and have audited nothing on a partner's behalf.
Registration and licence numbers are available on request, by calling (833) 751-2102 or by asking the roofer on contact, and a HIC number can be confirmed through the Attorney General's home improvement registration line. They are kept off this website for the privacy of that business and for no other reason. Whether storm damage is covered is decided by your insurer, not by this site or the partner; the Pennsylvania Insurance Department and, in New Jersey, the Department of Banking and Insurance regulate insurers.

Prices are estimates
Price ranges are typical estimates for our service area in 2026. They are not quotes or offers. Your price is confirmed in person before any work starts.
Safety on and around a roof
Do not go up to look. Falls are the leading cause of death in construction work, and roofs, ladders and roof openings account for most of them. A roof that looks sound from the ground can have broken sheathing, rotten decking or a hidden soft spot that gives way under one footstep, and storm damage makes that more likely, not less.
Never walk a roof that is wet, frosted, mossy, or shedding loose granules: asphalt shingles are slick long before they look it, and a shallow pitch is no protection. Never go up after a storm while there is still wind, lightning, standing water or a downed power line anywhere near the house. Snow and ice make the same roof several times worse, and pulling at an ice dam from a ladder brings the ice down on the person pulling it. Keep well clear of the eaves in freezing weather for the same reason.
You can tell us a great deal without leaving the ground: look at the roof with binoculars, photograph what you can see from an upstairs window, and check the ceilings and the attic from inside. Let someone with fall protection and the right ladders do the rest. While work is going on, keep children and pets away from the drip line, keep vehicles out from under the eaves, and treat every nail, offcut and piece of flashing on the ground as sharp. If a ceiling is sagging or wet, stay out of the room under it until someone has looked at it.
Licensing, permits and insurance
Pennsylvania issues no general contractor or roofing licence. Home improvement contractors register with the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General under the Home Improvement Consumer Protection Act, and some townships and boroughs require a licence or registration of their own on top of that. Nothing on this Site is a claim to hold a licence, certification, approval or manufacturer accreditation. Ask us what we hold before work starts, and check it with the authority that issues it.
Replacing a roof normally needs a building permit and an inspection, and which office issues it depends on where the property sits; confirm it with your city or county building department. Shingle, membrane and metal manufacturers give their own warranties on their own terms, and most of them depend on the roof being installed, fastened and ventilated to the manufacturer's instructions; nothing on this Site creates, extends or substitutes for one.
On storm and hail work: we can document what we find and meet your adjuster at the property, but we are not public adjusters or insurance agents. We cannot appraise, negotiate or settle a claim for you, and in many states doing that without a licence is prohibited. Nothing on this Site offers to pay, waive, rebate or absorb an insurance deductible. Whether damage is covered is decided by your insurer under your policy, and information here is a summary, not legal, insurance or code advice.
